Online Data Reporting

Identifying online data can be a difficult process in higher education. As opposed to other data elements such as majors, course titles, or bio/demo data which have a clear relationship to the field name and the data, online identifiers generally require a subject matter expert to translate the data within the student information system to a report author to effectively develop a report.

Accurately identifying online students has a huge impact in higher education. There are considerations across various workstreams, whether it’s accreditation, managing curriculum, academic records, etc. We need to document that authorization to operate in any state where enrolled students reside. Online courses heavily impact international students as there are limits to how many of these courses international students can take each semester.

The Office of Data Analytics provides regular support in working with subject matter experts in various functional workstreams to identify online data, develop appropriate reports, and share those reports with our functional stakeholders. We have received feedback from our colleagues that the professional assistance we provided is invaluable to operations, informing strategic decision making and contributing greatly to our collective success.
